Panels have been organized to address key challenges. Attendees will learn how nanotechnology based products are continuing to solve key issues confronting business and individuals in their daily lives. Panel topics include:
The morning keynote will be given by Dr. Bernard S. Meyerson, vice president for Strategic Alliance and chief technologist, IBM Systems and Technology Group. Dr. Meyerson became chief technologist of IBM's Technology Group in 2001, and in 2003, he assumed operational responsibility for IBM's Semiconductor Technology Research and Development as head of the SRDC (Semiconductor Research and Development Center). In that role he led the world's largest semiconductor development consortium, members of which include Sony, Toshiba, AMD, Samsung, Chartered Semiconductor, and Infineon. In December 2005, he was appointed to the position of vice president of Strategic Alliances and CTO of IBM's System Technology Group. The lunch keynote will be given by Paul Dickerson, Chief Operating Officer of the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). With its $1.47 billion budget, EERE invests in a diverse portfolio of energy technologies to provide efficient, clean and renewable energy leading toward a stronger economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy independence for America. The dessert keynote will be given by Bruce Sohn, President of First Solar, Inc. Mr. Sohn joined First Solar in March 2007 as President. Mr. Sohn was formerly a senior executive at Intel Corporation and has served on the Board of Directors of First Solar since 2003. First Solar, Inc. (First Solar) designs and manufactures solar modules using a thin film semiconductor technology. First Solar has made the Promise of Thin Film a Reality and has become one of the fastest growing manufacturers of solar modules in the world. The Afternoon Keynote will be given by Dr. Henry Kelly, President of the Federation of American Scientists. Dr. Kelly has held this position since July 2001. Prior to joining the FAS, Dr. Kelly spent more than seven years as Assistant Director for Technology in the Office of Science and Technology in the White House. There he helped negotiate and implement administration research partnerships in energy and the environment, information technology, and learning technology. These partnerships included new automobile and truck technology, housing technology, bioprocessing technology, and information technology. Before his tenure at the White House, he was a senior associate at the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment; assistant director for the Solar Energy Research Institute; and worked on the staff of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. He is the author of numerous books and articles on issues in science and technology policy.
